Storage of Satsuma Mandarin

Abstract
This study was carried out to investigate the effects of Thiophanate-methyl Wp treatment and mechanical injury on the shelf life of stored Satsuma mandarin. Results are summarized as follows:
1. Fruit weight loss during storage was not signigicantly different among treatments by Thiophanate-methyl and mechanical injuries.
2. Fruit decay during storage was more effectively reduced by the preharvest application of Thiophanate-methyl Wp than by postharvest dipping treatment.
3. Incidence of fruit rot by the storage of the wounded fruit was the most as 63.50% among treatments.
4. Fruit rot caused by Penicillium italicum accounting for 20.7% of whole fruit rot followed by that caused by Penicillium digitatum, Alternaria citri, Geotrichum candidum, Diaporthe citri and Phoma citricarpa.
5. Sugar content of fruit juice increased until the middle period of storage and citric acid contents was reduced rapidly from the early stage of storage. Sugar and acid contents of fruit juice were not significantly different among treatments.
There results suggest that the preharvest application of thiophanate-methy Wp and sorting of healthy fruits might be directly related to the maintenance of fruit quality during Satuma mandarin storage.
